Welcome to MTEC, a non-profit organization founded to increase the number of quality teachers in Milwaukee. MTEC offers an alternative teacher certification program for those interested in education, and professional development workshops and advanced study opportunities for current teachers.

  • March 12, 2008 Enroll Now! Next Certification Class Begins In Early June
    Spaces in the next certification class are filling up quickly. Attend an info session. In-Process candidates need to complete the Praxis I test ASAP ( ETS - Praxis ). Select Register for a Test. For more info call 227-2541.
  • May 9, 2008 Enroll now for the AmeriCorps class of 08 - 09
    AmeriCorps members can earn an education award voucher of $4725 that can be applied to existing education loans or can be held for up to seven years and applied to future education loans. AmeriCorps members (teachers) must complete 1700 hours of service and training (regular teaching day, planning and prep time, meetings, seminars, classes, service activities, etc.) during the nine months of service.

  • May 6, 2008 MMABSE honors 8 MTEC graduates
    At the 6th annual Teacher Of The Year Recognition Gala on May 2, 2008, MMABSE honored 120 teachers. Eight of those teachers were graduates of the MTEC program - Itza Espinoza, Bernarda Santos, Mary Sonsalla, Tasha Henderson, Phebe Smith, Silvia Robertson, Charles Harris and Koroush Hassani. MTEC joins MMABSE in congratulating those teachers who have demonstrated excellence in teaching Milwaukee's children.
  • March 5, 2008 WPRI finds that MTEC teachers rate their preparation higher than those trained in other programs.
    "Teachers trained at MTEC rated their preparation to teach in MPS higher than did the teachers in all the other programs. Nearly 78 percent of the MTEC teachers felt well-prepared to deal successfully with diversity in their classrooms, and nearly 73 percent felt they had sufficient management skills. Eighty percent of MTEC teachers felt well prepared to work in a large urban district like MPS." Read the full report at the Wisconsin Policy Research Institute
