Teacher Certification

Initial Educator Certification Program

MTEC's Initial Educator Certification Program (IECP) provides individuals who possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university the opportunity to become a highly qualified teacher for Milwaukee's public schools, or schools that work with Milwaukee's children (Choice schools excluded).

The program provides a "fast track" to Wisconsin Teacher licensure in selected certification areas. Candidates participate in a pre-service program to learn the fundamental principles of teaching before receiving a teaching assignment as a resident teacher in a Milwaukee Public School. The Resident Teachers also participate in educational courses throughout the year that focus on principles of learning and effective instructional strategies.

Resident teachers working in a Milwaukee Public Schools classroom are paid at the current rate for a beginning teacher and receive all of the fringe benefits available to a starting Milwaukee Public Schools Teacher.

Contracted Teacher Certification Program

MTEC's Contracted Teacher Program provides special licensed teachers and certified teachers the opportunity to expand their teaching certification.
