The availability of programs depends upon the needs of the local schools and districts that partner with MTEC. All programs include a veteran educator who serves as your personal mentor. In order to earn a recommendation for a teaching license, candidates must meet all program requirements.
Initial Educator License
Candidates who are switching careers benefit from classes taught by veteran educators. Our classes are practical and focus upon the fundamental principles of instruction, motivation and assessment. The program includes a pre-service experience, coursework through our University affiliate and a mentor-supported on-the-job teaching experience. For most candidates the program can be completed in one year with a recommendation for teacher certification for those who successfully meet all of the program requirements. Before assignment to a classroom those seeking an initial license complete a pre-service program that focuses on the development of the fundamental principles of teaching.
Bilingual Endorsement
The MTEC Bilingual Endorsement Program is a one year proficiency-based program for currently licensed teachers throughout the state of Wisconsin who want to add a Bilingual Endorsement to their Wisconsin Certification. The program is open to licensed teachers who hold a certification in elementary, special education, or in a content area and have a school assignment in a bilingual classroom. Adding A License
Those teachers who obtain an additional teaching license may be able to increase their employment options. Opportunities for obtaining an additional license depend upon the available positions and the applicant's educational background. For example, those with sufficient college coursework in math or science can earn an additional teaching license in those areas. Those who can demonstrate fluency in a foreign language can expand their marketability by adding a bilingual endorsement. MTEC will recommend for Wisconsin teacher certification those students who:
- Successfully complete the On The Job teaching assignment
- Complete a portfolio showing evidence that they know and can apply the Wisconsin State Teaching Standards
