Program Costs
The costs of the MTEC teacher certification program include tuition fees. The cost changes from year to year but is comparable to the cost of a graduate program at a public university. Financial aid is available to qualified candidates. For additional financial aid options contact your school financial aid office.
Participants who teach in a Milwaukee Public School can apply for a Higher Educational Aids Board (HEAB) loan. The HEAB loan is forgivable upon completion of 2 years of teaching in a school that is part of the Milwaukee Public School system.
MTEC AmeriCorps is a program that allows students to complete service learning projects concurrently with teaching. Upon satisfactory completion of the project, AmeriCorps students receive a stipend that can applied toward tuition costs..
Praxis Testing and Preparation
The Praxis Series™ tests are taken by individuals entering the teaching profession as part of the certification process. Applicants for an initial license are required to earn a passing score on both the Praxis I and Praxis II tests. The Praxis II test is specific to the area of licensure. Check with the MTEC Teacher Certification Administrator to ensure that you take the correct test.
