Professional Learning Services

Professional Learning Services (PLS) was created by the Milwaukee Teacher Education Center (MTEC) in response to the professional development needs expressed by Milwaukee's schools, including coaching support for staff. The goal of PLS is to strengthen teaching quality in order to increase student learning and close student achievement gaps. PLS provides comprehensive, effective professional development to Milwaukee's teachers, administrators, and other staff.

About PLS Providers

Since its inception, MTEC has employed recently retired Milwaukee teachers and administrators as coaches, mentors, assessors, and instructors, thus reclaiming resources for our community that may have been lost in the past. Launched in the fall of 2005, PLS is a unique service that expands the capacity of retired educators to positively impact the achievement of Milwaukee's public school children and the retention of teachers in Milwaukee.

PLS matches a provider's expertise to the professional development needs of teachers, school leaders, and school communities. Service provider expertise and support is aligned with district initiatives. MTEC's Professional Learning Services works to identify and create a comprehensive cost-effective menu of learning services that supports the use of effective practices to improve learning.

To accomplish these tasks, MTEC recruits, trains and assigns a workforce of experienced educators and professionals from related fields. By making available coaching and other professional development that teachers and school staff need just in time, MTEC enhances its mission to provide excellent teachers for Milwaukee's children.
