Instructional Coaches
Instructional Coaches provide services and expertise to learning communities based on assessed needs and intended outcomes. Services may focus on school education plans and the Wisconsin Teaching Standards, or the concentration may be on behavior management and lesson planning. As a learning community, MTEC is committed to the continuous quality improvement of the teacher experience, and to a lifelong, ongoing system of professional development. Current contracts include initial educator coaching, project management, implementation of district initiatives, and carrying out of DPI grants.
Mentors and Assessors
Mentors and Assessors work in MTEC's pre-service alternative certification program. Mentors provide ideas, support and encouragement to MTEC's teachers-in-training. Generally, mentors develop a strong relationship with their teachers through frequent classroom observations and feedback conversations. Assessors observe teachers and provide feedback a minimum of 5 times during the school year; mentors and assessors both strive to improve teacher skills to enhance student learning. Most mentors and assessors have a teaching license in the same area as the teacher s/he mentors or assesses.
Instructors
Instructors have a role in all three MTEC programs. Teachers in both the certification program and master's degree program participate in seminars and specialized trainings that focus on content, standards, and topics related to learning. Retired educators frequently serve in this leadership capacity. In addition, as part of contracted service requests, PLS providers may also design, plan, and/or lead professional development workshops that are followed with elbow-to-elbow coaching.
